What is CTS?
CTS is Thrivent’s Corporate Test System. It is a home grown menu driven system that
was developed to run under TSO/ISPF and its purpose was to automate many common
testing functions for the testers. The
main objective is to provide a method to efficiently test processes within our
major lines of business. Applications
supported within CTS include common modules, test tools, database extract and
load processing, system specific file maintenance, and post-processing
functions.
Who uses CTS?
The primary
audiences for CTS are the business specialists and the IT developers. The system is designed to meet the technical
needs of the IT professional along with being friendly enough to support an
inexperienced business customer.
What gets put into
CTS?
The following is a list of questions that were developed to help the business customer and the Testing Services Rep decide if a new application should be developed in CTS or not. The goal is to make life simpler for both the business customer and Testing Services by not creating a monster in CTS that is infrequently used.
1.
How
often will the function be used?
2.
How
many people will be using this function?
3.
What
is the technical literacy of the customer base?
Could they make simple changes to JCL
and submit jobs that way?
4.
How
ugly is the work-around?
5.
How
long will the options be used?
6.
How
complex is the system to write/maintain?
7.
Does
the JCL require many changes before it is submitted?
